We’ve had our eye on you for some time now, Mr. Anderson

My journey so far with the headshots has been wonderful and a great experience.

I’m not finished yet, but I’m shooting guys that are giving me very different looks and and an intensity and beauty that you wouldn’t normally associate with men.

See what I mean with this shot I took of Jesper Andersson here? Right?

Head shots – Part 1

Location: Sports Interactive’s Headquarters, London

I recently did a bunch of head shots for the gang at Sports Interactive, who are the creators of the popular Football Manager series of games that are published by SEGA.

I’ve been wanting to focus more on portraiture and get out of my comfort zone, so this was the perfect opportunity for that and it’s safe to say we had a real blast. This is just a two light treatment too and it’s amazing what you can achieve with just two small strobes.

The guys will be using these photos for a variety of things from website profile pictures, internal wiki and intranet systems and for plain old social networking like Facebook.

“I don’t look so good in photos”

You know, lately I’ve been thinking about doing a little more head shots, cos people need ‘em!

I have so many friends who say to me that they’ve not got a single good photo of themselves, or that they don’t photo well, yadda, yadda, yadda…and I’m like…damn, are you sure? Really?

My buddy Paul is one of those guys, so I took his picture today using just ambient available light. No fancy flash or anything like that, and just sitting his desk at work, just to prove my point.

Take a look at this…come on, are you kidding me?

Honl 1/8 Speed Grid

I recently purchased a couple of Honl 1/8 Speed Grids, which is a modifier you can use on your strobes and really allows you to concentrate the beam of light from your flashgun and focus it in a specific way.

I plan to use these for some specific portrait shots soon for a particular assignment.

First shot with the Honl 1/8 Speed Grid

But for now, I used one of them in combination with my Nikon SB-900 Speedlight and here was my first go playing around with it, and using my photography buddy Okwaeze Otusi as my subject.

Pre-Ceremony: Stoke Park, Slough
Ceremony and Reception: Hedsor House, Slough

These two were just amazing to work with and such lovely people, with fantastic friends and family. I really enjoyed this one and it was a real privilege to share their special day with them.

Here are a few of my favourites from the day.
